Late Game Surge Not Enough for Lady Bulldogs

 
Conway, SC—Coastal Carolina held off a late game surge by SC State as they defeated the Lady Bulldogs, 54-59, in a non-conference match-up in Conway, SC.
            The Lady Bulldogs, (0-3), jumped out to a 7-3 lead by the first media timeout, 15:33. Coastal Carolina then put together a 14-4 run over the next five minutes to take a 17-11 lead. The Lady Chanticleers, (4-0), went on a 13-6 run to close out the half up by 13, 30-17.
            The teams exchanged baskets for the better part of the second half. The Lady Bulldogs then put together a 9-0 run with a little over four minutes remaining to cut the Lady Chanticleers lead to six, 46-52. SC State would pull within four with nine seconds left but could not finish its comeback, falling by five, 54-59.
            Sophilia Hipps led the Lady Bulldogs for the third straight game with 14 points. Freshman Patience Figgins dropped in a season-high 11 points while junior Jenell Moore pulled down a game-high nine rebounds in the loss.
            C.J. Ware scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Lady Chanticleers.
            SC State will travel to Savannah, Georgia this Saturday, to take on Savannah State. The Lady Bulldogs will return home next Tuesday, Nov. 27 when they host Gardner-Webb. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm
 
Game Notes: Coastal Carolina led by as many as 16 points in the second half…there were five lead changes and two ties in the game.
