Tyree E. Price is in his second season as the head coach of the South Carolina State men’s and women’s cross-country/track & field program.
Price is no stranger to South Carolina State. He was member of the Bulldog men’s track team for four years (1995-1998). He was also a member of the football team for one season.
Price joined the SC State staff after serving as the head men’s and women’s cross-country/track and field coach at Fort Valley State in 2006-07. At Fort Valley, he produced a number of Division II track and field All-Americans and guided the school to several top finishes at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Cross Country and Track and Field Championships as well as the NCAA Division II Championships.
Prior to his stint at Fort Valley, Price served three seasons as an assistant at Morris Brown College in Atlanta, GA.
In the 2006-07 season, the Fort Valley State men’s and women’s track teams were third at the SIAC Championships. The women were second in 2006 and also had a runner-up finish in cross country in 2004. His men’s track team was third in the conference championship in 2006 and second in cross country in 2005.
At the NCAA Div. II Nationals, the Ft. Valley State women placed ninth in 2006 after a sixth-place showing in 2005. Overall, Price has coached sixteen (16) Div. II track All-Americans, including the South Regional Female Athlete of the Year twice. And, twice, he has earned Coach of the Year honors in the SIAC.
Price received his bachelor’s degree from South Carolina State in 1998. In addition to his degree from SC State, the Summerville, SC native has done further study at Life University and is currently working toward a Master’s in Sport Management at the United States Sports Academy.
