Michael K. Walton

Mike Walton enters into his third season on the South Carolina State University men’s basketball staff.

Walton is involved in a number of facets of the Bulldog program, including on-court coaching, recruiting, opponent scouting, team travel, overseeing team strength & conditioning, skill development and is the team’s video & film exchange coordinator.

 Walton served as the Director of Men’s Basketball Operations at SC State during the 2008-2009 season. In that capacity, he was responsible for coordinating the Bulldog’s travel arrangements, as well as other administrative duties.
 
The Georgia native was a four-year letterman for current University of Memphis Assistant coach Willis Wilson at Rice University from 1999-2003. Walton graduated from the Houston, Texas university in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Kinesiology.
 
Walton was born in Savannah, Georgia on May 14, 1981. A 1999 high school graduate of Mount de Sales Academy in Macon, GA., Walton earned five letters in basketball and was named All-City, All-Region and All-State in 1997, 1998 and 1999. Walton competed in the GISA AAA North-South All-Star Game as a senior. In addition, he was named All-City, All-Region and All-State during those same seasons competing for the Cavalier football team, and after his senior campaign was named GISA AAA Player of the Year by the Macon (GA) Touchdown Club and the Georgia Independent Schools Association.
 
Michael and his wife, the former Valerie Ellis, also of Macon, Georgia, are the proud parents of 6-year old Justin, 4-year old Megan and 3-year old Kennedy.
