Kendrick D. Lewis is in his 19th year and oversees the Office of Athletic Stratgeic Communications & Marketing as the  Assistant AD for Strategic Communications & Marketing. 

He manages the day-to-day operations of the Office of Strategic Communications & Marketing after taking over for long-time Hall of Fame sports information director, William “Bill” Hamilton, who retired in June 2013 after 40 years of service to the University.

Lewis is only the second person to hold this position in the school’s history.

Prior to his appointment, Lewis spent seven years as the assistant sports information director at SC State. He is the primary contact for football, men’s and women’s track & field, men’s basketball, and men’s and women’s tennis.

As well as managing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Office of Strategic Communications , the service arm of the Athletics Department, Lewis previously serve. as a Sports Oversight Administrator for softball and women’s soccer.

The Office of Strategic Communications primary responsibility of the office is to disseminate information about all sports, coaching staff, student-athletes, as well as about the members of the SC State Department of Athletics to local, state, and national media outlets. The department is also responsible for maintaining records, producing media guides, and managing the athletic website. SC State currently sponsors 14 sports - six men’s programs and eight women’s.

In addition to his duties in the department of athletics, at SC State Lewis serves on several committees at the University including Customer Service & Image Building, Computing & Information Technology Advisory, Gender Equity, Sports Awards Banquet, and Game Management, Staff Senate and the Staff Employee of the Year Committee.

He is also a voting pollster on several national college football polls and serves as voting committee member on the SC State Athletic Hall of Fame and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Hall of Fame.

Lewis is very active in the Orangeburg community as well as outside the university where he serves on the Mid-Eastern Athletic (MEAC) Basketball Tournament Committee, Orangeburg Rotary, Orangeburg Touchdown Club Board of Directors and Hilcrest Golf Commission  Board of Directors and is currently a part of the 2023 CSC(College Sports Communicators) Diversity and Inclusion Fellowship Class, only the second class in history.

A native of Mullins, SC, Lewis began his tenure in sports information in 2008 after serving two years as a Graphic Artist/Athletic Liaison for University Relations & Marketing Department at the University. Prior to that, he served as a Sports Copy Editor/Sportswriter for six and a half years at the local newspaper, The Times and Democrat. He also served three years as a Sports Information Student Assistant (2000-03) at SC State, where he earned a bachelor’s in psychology with a minor in journalism in 2003.

Lewis is a 2011 graduate of the NCAA Leadership Institute for Minority Males & Females and a 2012 Orangeburg Chamber of Commerce Leadership Institute graduate. He was named the 2013 Staff Employee of the Year for the Division of the Office of the President at SC State.

Additionally, he is a member of several other professional and community organizations including , the National Collegiate Marketing Association (NCMA), Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA), the Black College Sports Information Directors Association (BCSIDA), the College of Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA) now currently College Sports Communicators, where he serves on the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and a proud member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
