Nygel Pearson

Nygel Pearson is in his fifth year as a member of the South Carolina State football coaching staff. The SC State alumnus and former Bulldog offensive lineman works with fullbacks and tight ends for Coach Buddy Pough.
     
A Darlington, S.C. native, Pearson returned to his alma mater as an assistant after two years as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Fairfield Central High School in Winnsboro, S.C. As the offensive coordinator at FCHS, the offense averaged 187.4 passing yards, 181 rushing yards and 33 points per game.
    
Pearson was a standout offensive lineman during his playing career at SC State. He garnered All-MEAC honors during his senior campaign and was also a semifinalist for the Draddy Award, one of the top academic honors for collegiate football players. In addition, he earned MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Week (versus Howard in 2008) accolades and academic honors from the National Football Foundation, the MEAC and SC State during his career.
     
As a prepster at Darlington High School where he was a football standout, Pearson earned all-region, all-state, all-zone honors and was a High School Sport Report All-State performer. He also participated in the prestigious North-South All-Star Game. He graduated from Mayo High School for Math, Science and Technology in 2004.

Pearson earned his bachelor's degree in physical education in 2008 and his master's in secondary education in 2014, both from SC State. He is married to the former Majoria Addison.
