Mike Adams

Mike Adams is in his fifth year as an assistant football coach at South Carolina State. Adams joined the Bulldog staff in 2006 as defensive back coach and coach of special teams’ coordinator. In 2008, he was promoted to defensive coordinator and his assignment changed to linebackers.
Since Adams has worked with the Bulldog defense, SC State has fielded one of the best units in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and the Football Championship Subdivision. He helped Coach Buddy Pough’s team to outright MEAC championships in both 2008 and 2009 and a share of the league crown in 2010. SC State also made three consecutive trips to the FCS playoffs.
Prior to coming to Orangeburg to join the Bulldog staff, Adams enjoyed a productive coach career at three other colleges – Ball State, St. Joseph’s (Ind.) and West Georgia.
Adams began his coaching career in 1997 at Ball State – his alma mater – as a student assistant, working with linebackers. That assignment was followed by a stint as an assist coach at St. Joseph’s (Ind.) where he coached several positions.
During the 1998 campaign, Adams coached wide receivers and running backs at St. Joseph’s. He moved to defense the following season as defensive back coach, a position he held two seasons (1999 and 2000).
Following the 2000 season, Adams accepted a position as an assistant at the University of West Georgia. He spent five seasons at UWG as defensive back coach and special teams coach before moving to SC State.
A native of Indianapolis, Adams is a 1998 graduate of Ball State where he earned a bachelor’s in sports administration.
Adams is single.
