Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

No. 1 SC State and No. 3 N.C. Central face off in a rematch of 2023 Championship

Cary, N.C.,– The 2024 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Tennis Championship match is set and it will be a rematch of the 2023 Championship contest between No. 1 South Carolina State and No. 3 North Carolina Central. 

No. 1 South Carolina State def. No. 4 Howard 4-0

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead after winning two doubles matches to claim the team point. SCSU's Pauliuchenka/Johnson duo defeated Howard's duo of Dieng/Knowles 7-5 at No. 3 doubles. The Bulldogs held a 5-3 lead but the Bison won the next two games to tie the score and force a seven-game match. The Bulldogs won the last two sets for a 7-5 victory.  

The second doubles match that contributed to S.C. State's doubles point came from Novakovic/Bankou who defeated Dawson/Lash 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. 

In singles South Carolina State's Johnson defeated Lash (HOW) 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles to add a second point to the Bulldogs tally.  

Novakovic (SCSU) and Dawson (HOW) matched up at No. 1 singles with the 6-3, 6-1 win going to South Carolina State. The final Bulldog point came from Aissa Benchakron who took down Justin Cadeau at No. 3 singles with a score of 6-2, 6-4 clinching the 4-0 win S.C. State. 

Meanwhile, No. 3 North Carolina Central def. No. 2 Norfolk State 4-2 to advance to the finals.

South Carolina State and North Carolina Central will compete for the 2024 MEAC Men's Tennis Championship on Saturday, April 27, at the Cary Tennis Park. First serve will begin at noon and will stream live on ESPN+.
