ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State women's basketball team look to get things back on track Saturday (Jan.6) when the welcome top-ranked the Lady Spartans of Norfolk State inside Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Tipoff is 2 p.m.
South Carolina State (1-14 overall. 0-0 MEAC) look to snap a seven-game skid before league play. The Lady Bulldogs posted their first win of the season on 11/29/2023 with an 76-58 win over Queens College at home.
Morgan Beecham leads the way for SCSU with 8.3 ppg, while
Janiah Hinton,
Jordan Releford and
Taniya McGowan each chip in a little over 7.5 per contest.
Rakyha Reid is the leader on the boards at 5.3.
Meanwhile, Norfolk State (10-4 overall, 0-0 MEAC) ranked amongst the best in the league enters the game on a three-game winning streak after wins over High Point (85-71), UNC-Wilmington (96-55) and Longwood (76-59).
The Lady Spartans are led by Diamond Johnson 20.5 at ppg and 7.8 rebounds, while Kierra Wheeler is second on the team at 18.8 points and 10.2 rebounds on the season.
UP NEXT: South Carolina State return to conference play Monday (Jan.8) at home versus Howard in the first of a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader in a 5:30 p.m. start.
