ATLANTA, GA—A slow start from the Bulldog offense leads to an 37-7 win for SWAC for Jackson State over South Carolina State in the annual Cricket Wireless MEAC/SWAC Challenge Saturday (Aug.26
thI at Center Parc Stadium in Atlanta, GA.
Despite the loss, the Bulldogs offense displayed a spark with true freshman running
Jawarn Howell finishing with 12 carries for 48-yards, while graduate tight end
Keshawn Toney had the only score of the day for SC State on an 18-yard toss from
Corey Fields, Jr. with 0:22 seconds remaining in regulation.
Toney finished with three (3) catches for 41-yards and a score. Freshman Max' Ceon Cobb had a solid day punting with six (6) for 219-yards (36.5) two inside the 20-yardline and a long of 42-yrds.
The defense was spearheaded by graduate defensive back
Jaylen Evans with 7 tackles (6 solo), Zan Dunham with 6 tackles (4 solo) and a forced fumble and
Malcolm Magee and
Patrick Godbolt with five (5) solo each. Godbolt also added 2 TFL and 2 sacks in the loss.
Next up South Carolina State remains on the road with a showdown against Charlotte on Saturday (Sept. 2
nd) in a 6:00 p.m. start at Jerry Richardson Stadium. The game will be televised line on ESPN+.
