Game Notes: Bulldogs On Road Versus Knights Season Opener Thursday

-The South Carolina State Bulldogs (0-0) will kick off the 2022 campaign on Thursday, Sept. 1st at 7 p.m. against host UCF (0-0) at Bounce House Stadium.

ABOUT THE BULLDOGS
• South Carolina State is in its 21st season under head coach Oliver "Buddy" Pough, who has led the Bulldogs to eight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championships and two HBCU National Championships in his tenure.
• Last season, Pough led the Bulldogs to a 7-5 overall headlined by winning the MEAC Championship with a perfect 5-0 mark against conference opponents and a 31-10 victory against Jackson State in the Cricket Wireless Celebration Bowl.
• Pough has coached South Carolina State in each of the previous three meetings against UCF (2008, 2016 and 2018).

PRESEASON HONOR ROLL
Sixteen Bulldogs earn All-MEAC Preseason Honors, while SC State was picked to finish first in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) race.

SENIOR BOWL WATCH LIST
Junior defensive end Jeblonski Green, Jr has been named to the watch list for the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl all-star game (Feb. 4, 2023, in Mobile, Alabama).

LEADING THE CHARGE
Quarterback Corey Fields, Jr., wide receiver Shaquan Davis, offensive lineman Chris Simon, Nick Taiste, Cam Johnson, and Eric Brown, jr. Defensive lineman Jeblonksi Green, Jr., Patrick Godbolt, linebacker BJ Davis and defensive backs Jalen Barr, Kendell Moultrie and Duane Nichols.

STRONG RETURNERS
• Eighteen starters return (nine of offense, and nine on defense) Fifteen returning starters (eight on defense, seven on offense) plus a handful of key specialists are back for Pough who competed in the 2021 Cricket Celebration Bowl a year ago where the Bulldogs knocked off top-ranked Jackson State 31-10 in Atlanta, Ga.

COOL UNDER PRESSURE
• Jeblonski Green, Jr., led the nation in tackles for loss with 19.5 in just nine (9) games played for South Carolina State. Shaquan Davis set a Celebration Bowl record with three (3) receiving touchdowns in the win over Jackson State.
