Basketball Teams On the Road in MEAC Showdown Versus UMES

ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's and women's basketball teams return to action in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) doubleheader on the road at Maryland-Eastern Shore Saturday (Jan.22nd) at W.P. Hytche Arena.

Tip-off for the women's contest begins at 2 p.m., followed by the men's in a 4 p.m. start. Both games will be televised live on FLOSPORTS network. 

SERIES: The men lead the series 8-4 over UMES. The Bulldogs captured the last two meetings with a 68-53 win on Jan. 20th, 2020 and a 63-54 victory on Mar.12th, 2019. Meanwhile, the women lead the series 6-5 over the Lady Hawks. The Lady Bulldogs won their last meeting in a 60-55 win on Jan. 20th in Orangeburg.

LAST TIMEOUT: South Carolina State men cruised to an 102-67 win over Morris College, with five Bulldogs scoring double-figures on the evening. Meanwhile, the women posted their first victory of the season in a 63-51 MEAC win over NC Central. Freshman guard Nicole Gwynn finished with a game-high 26 points and 6 rebounds.

NOTE: Gwynn was named MEAC Rookie & Player of the Week, the league announced.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS: SC State (8-10, 0-2 MEAC) is averaging 75.1 points per game as a team; 42.5 rebounds; 7.4 steals and 3.6 blocks.

Two-time MEAC Rookie of the Week freshman guard T.J. Madlock leads the way with 12.0 points and 5.6 rebounds. Cameron Jones gives the much-needed scoring and lift with 11.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per outing. DeQuan Williams provides the leadership in the frontcourt with 6.1 rebounds and 7.8 points.

SCOUTING THE  LADY BULLDOGS: SC State (1-14, 1-0 MEAC) is averaging 48.3 points per game as a team; 35.6 rebounds; 6.3 steals and 4.5 blocks.

Two-time MEAC Rookie of the Week freshman guard  Nicole Gwynn is the leader on the court with 12.5 points and 4.1 rebounds, while All-MEAC performer Trinity Klock leads the way in rebounding with 7.0 rebounds and 9.4 points per game.

UP Next for SC State
South Carolina State will continue MEAC play on the road a t Dover, DE against Delaware State Monday (Jan.24th) in a 5:30 p.m. start for the women, followed by a 7:30 p.m. tip for the men.
