Basketball Teams Resume MEAC Play Monday

ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's and women's basketball teams resume Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play Monday (Jan.20th) at home versus Maryland Eastern Shore in a league doubleheader at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

Tip-off for the women is 5:30 p.m., followed by the men in a 7:30 p.m. contest.

The Lady Bulldogs look to bounce back after a tough, 39-44, loss to Florida A&M on Saturday. Jayah Hicks led the way with 10 points and De'Mean Bond added nine points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

UMES dropped a tough, 68-45, loss to Norfolk State in their last outing. The Lady Hawks were led by Brooklyn Bailey with 12 points and Amanda Carney with 10.

On the men's side, the Bulldogs (8-8 overall, 3-1 MEAC) are off to an impressive start after cruising to an 81-65 win over FAMU on Saturday. Senior forward Damani Applewhite led the way with a team-high 22 points on the day.

UMES (2-17 overall, 1-3 MEAC) suffered a 52-62 setback to Norfolk State on Saturday. AJ Cheesman led the way with a team-high 15 points in the loss.

Both teams return to action on Saturday (Jan. 25th) when they travel to Norfolk to take on Norfolk State in an MEAC doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m., for the women and 6:30 p.m. for the men.
