ORANGEBURG, SC – Seven members of the South Carolina State track and field team are among student-athletes scheduled to compete at the 2019 NCAA Division I Track and Field Preliminary May 23rd -25th  at the University of North Florida (UNF) in Jacksonville, FL. FloTrack will televise the competition LIVE.

The Bulldog competitors include sprinters Demek Kemp and Tyrell Richard in the 100 meters and 400 meters, respectively; Kemp in the 200 meters; the 4x100-meter relay team of Kemp, Daniel Seawright, Malik Watson, Waddell Rembert-Jett and alternate Kameron Hammond; and Seawright in the long jump. Kemp, Richard and Seawright will be participating in the East Preliminary for a second straight season.

Kemp is scheduled to compete in the 100 meters first round Thursday at 6:55 p.m. The Monroe, GA senior finished second at the recent MEAC Outdoor Track Championship and has one of the nation's top times (10.03) in the 100 meters this season. Kemp is also scheduled to participate in the 200 meters, with the first round set for Friday at 7:55.

Richard, a Georgetown, SC senior, earlier won the 400 meters at the NCAA Indoor Championship, and has one of the top outdoor times (44.81) in the event, which will be run Thursday at 7:45.
The top 24 performers in each of Thursday's sprints will advance to Friday's quarterfinals.

The Bulldog 4x100-meter relay team will see its first action Saturday at 6:45 p.m. The group earlier set a school record in the event with a time of 39.63.

Seawright, who took the bronze medal in the long jump at the MEAC with a leap of 7.51 meters, will see his first action in the event, beginning Thursday at 3:30 p.m. The Orangeburg sophomore hopes to be among top 12 performers to advance to the NCAA Finals at Austin, TX Jun. 5-8.
