ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's and women's basketball team host Savannah State in the regular season finale Thursday (March. 7
th) at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
Tip-off for the women's game is 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's contest in a 7:30 p.m. start.
The Bulldogs currently ranked 7
th in the MEAC standings, look to avenge an early season 88-92 loss to the Tigers in Savannah, GA on Jan. 26
th. Junior forward
Ozante Fields led the way with a team-high 16 points.
Meanwhile SSU, ranked 5
th in the league looks to snap a three-game losing skid after suffering a tough, 76-81, defeat to Howard on Saturday (March. 2
nd). Zaquavian Smith led the way with a team-high 21 points in the loss.
On the women's side, the Lady Bulldogs are ranked 5
th in the MEAC and look to keep up their winning ways after coming off an impressive, 57-51, win over Bethune-Cookman on the road. Junior forward
Taylor Brown led the way with a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds.
The Lady Tigers look to close out the regular season on a good note after suffering a 70-106 defeat to Howard in their last outing. Le' Andrea Gills led the way with 26 points in the loss.
Next up both teams will compete in the 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament March. 11-16
th at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, VA. More information will be available about tournament pairings at a later date.
