Taylor Brown tossed in a team-high 24 points and 13 rebounds to lead South Carolina State to an, 63-60, road win over Delaware State Monday (Feb. 4
th ) at Memorial Hall.
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 11-11 overall, 4-4 in the MEAC, while Delaware State falls to 4-16 overall, 2-7 in the league.
South Carolina State led 33-32 during intermission.
The Lady Hornets opened the third quarter on fire leading by as many as nine (9) points, 57-44, heading into the fourth quarter. South Carolina State sparked a 19-7 run to kick off the fourth quarter off the energy of senior guard
Rhein Beamon who gave the Lady Bulldogs that spark to take the lead, 57-56, with 4:05 left.
Free-throws was the determining factor down the stretch with South Carolina State converting on 15-fo-28 on the night to seal the victory.
Beamon finished with 14 points and five rebounds, while senior guard
Jakayvea Akins added 13 points and six rebounds in the win. Senior forward
Jaquanna Murray had a solid day on the defensive end with 10 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 3 points.
DSU was led by All-MEAC performer senior NaJai Pollard with a game-high 36 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.
South Carolina State returns home for a four-game home stand this weekend beginning with Morgan State on Saturday (Feb. 9) in a critical Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference showdown. Tipoff for the women is 2 p.m., followed by the men in a 4 p.m. start.
