ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's and women's basketball teams will host the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats in a pivotal Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference(MEAC) showdown at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center Saturday (Feb.16th)
Tip-off for the women is 2 p.m., followed by the men in a 4 pm start.
South Carolina State also will honor 11 student-athletes on "Senior Day". Three from the men and eight from the women team will be honored right after the women's contest and right before the start of the men's game.
Last timeout the Bulldogs (6-20 overall, 4-6 MEAC) completed a season sweep of Coppin State on Monday (Feb. 11
th) in a come from behind 85-54 win over Coppin State. All-MEAC Preseason forward
Damani Applewhite led the way with a team-high 21 points and seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Bethune-Cookman (11-14 overall, 6-5 MEAC) dropped a tough 73-79 decision to Howard at home. Cletrell Pope led the way with 19 points, while Mark Gordan posted a game-high 19 rebounds in the loss.
On the women's side, the Lady Bulldogs (12-12 overall, 5-5 MEAC) knocked off Coppin State 60-55 to complete the season sweep of the Lady Eagles. Senior guard
Rhein Beamon recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds in the win. BC-U (14-9 overall, 7-4 MEAC) enters the contest ranked 4
th in the MEAC standings after posting back-to-back league wins over Norfolk State (65-58) and Howard (76-63). Angel Golden finished with game with 26 points in the win.
Next up both teams return to action on Monday when they host Florida A&M in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Tip-off for the women is 5:30 pm, followed by the men in a 7:30 p.m. start.
