ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's basketball team remains undefeated at home after posting an, 90-85, victory over visiting UNC Asheville Thursday (Dec.11
th) at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
The Bulldogs (4-5) had five players to post double-figures with junior guard
Rayshawn Neal leading the way with a team-high 21 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assist.
"This was a game that we expected to be hard fought for 40 minutes, so it ended up taking overtime to settle the score," said head coach
Murray Garvin." UNC Asheville plays extremely hard and you have to take care of the ball. I am super happy for our guys. They continue to persevere and play as a team."
Garvin noted, "We got a huge lift from
Rayshawn Neal and
Armani Hill of the bench. Anytime you have five guys in double figures is a great night. We look forward to everyone showing up on the December. 18
th for our last home game until the new year."
Senior forward
Damani Applewhite finished with 12 points and seven rebounds, while senior guard Zach Sellers added 11. Junior guard
Tariq Simmons and graduate forward
Tashombe Riley added 10 each respectfully in the win.
South Carolina State returns to action on Wednesday, December 18
th at home versus USC-Upstate in a 7 p.m. non-conference showdown at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
