ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's and women's basketball teams host the Norfolk State Spartans Monday (Jan.21
st) at the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Holiday.
Tip-off for the women is 5:30 p.m., followed by the men with a 7:30 p.m. start.
The Bulldogs are coming off their second MEAC overtime loss of the season in a tough 71-67 defeat to one of the hottest team in the league the Howard Bison on Saturday at home. Preseason All-MEAC selection
Damani Applewhite finished with a game-best 26 points and 1 rebounds in the loss.
Meanwhile the women, improved to 9-9 on the season and 2-2 in the league after an impressive 72-63 victory over the Lady Bison. Senior guard
Rhein Beamon finished with 16 points on the day.
Norfolk State (10-10 overall, 5-0 MEAC) enters the contest after 82-76 win over Savannah State. The Spartans the top team in the league was led by Nic Thomas with 21 points and five rebounds. On the women's side the Lady Spartans seek their sixth straight and look to remain unbeaten in league play after an 78-42 win over Savannah State. Raven Russell led the way with a team-high 22 points.
Next up South Carolina State returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Savannah State to take in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) showdown, in a 2 p.m. showdown for the women followed by a 4 p.m. start for the men.
