BALTIMORE, MD—The South Carolina State men's and women's basketball team will be on the road for a two-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) road swing beginning with Morgan State Saturday (Jan.12
th), followed by Coppin State Monday (Jan. 14
th) in Baltimore, MD.
The women's contest will tip-off at 2 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. start for the men's game versus Morgan State.
Last timeout both the men and women teams are coming off tough losses in a MEAC opener to league rival North Carolina A&T State on last Saturday in Orangeburg. The Bulldogs dropped a tough 77-80 decision in overtime to the Aggies. Junior guard
Lavar Harewood led the way with a team-high 22 points, while junior All-MEAC Preseason selection
Damani Applewhite added a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.\
Applewhite is the leader for the Bulldogs at 18.9 points and 7.0 rebounds. Senior point
Janai Raynor-Powell controls the temp with 9.9 points and 3.3 rebounds. Morgan State (6-9) looks to rebound after dropping an 87-88 defeat to Savannah State in overtime. Kyson Rawls finished with a team-high 20 points.
On the women's side, the Lady Bulldogs fell short in a 44-58 contest to the Lady Aggies. Senior guard
Rhein Beamon led the charge with 13 points, while forward junior
Taylor Brown grabbed nine (9) rebounds.
Brown leads the way for the women in scoring with 13.6 points and 7.8 rebounds and teammate
Kemoni Jenkins adds 10.6 points and 3.6 rebounds. Morgan State (3-13) enters the contest after knocking off Savannah State 63-47. Adre'onia Coleman led the way with a double-double tossing in 24 point and 15 rebounds.
