Box Score ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's basketball team fell short in a 60-84 decision of avenging an early season loss to Coppin State Monday (Feb. 5
th) at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
Senior guard Patrell Rogers finished with a team-high 13 points, while Donte Wright and Justin Jones added 11 each respectively.
"Tonight was a total let down by our team. It ultimately starts and ends with me," said head coach
Murray Garvin. "Our guys just didn't have any energy or toughness about them tonight and I apologize to our fans and alumni for that performance."
The Bulldogs got off to a slow shooting start connecting on 23-of-57 (40. %) from the field and 7-of-23(30.4%) from behind the arc.
Despite the loss, SC State held tough in several categories including rebounding, points in the paint, second chance points and bench points.
Free-throws could have been one the determining factors down the stretch with SC State shooting 53.8% (7-of-13) from the charity stripe and Coppin State 80% (12-of-15) on the evening.
The Eagles had four players in double figures with Lamar Morgan leading the way with a team-high 16, while Lucian Brownlee chipped in 15 points and five rebounds in the win.
"We will figure things out and be ready to play on Saturday for all of our alumni that will be here for Basketball Homecoming, "said Garvin.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday (Feb. 10
th) in a MEAC showdown with league rival N.C. A&T State at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Tip-off is 4 p.m.
