ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's and women's basketball team will host their first doubleheader of the season when they take on visiting Voorhees Thursday (Dec. 6
th ) in a non-conference battle at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
Tip-off is 5:30 p.m., with the men beginning in a 7:30 p.m. start.
The Bulldogs look to rebound after a close 71-69 loss to Jacksonville University in their last outing. Junior forward
Damani Applewhite led the way with a 22 points and 10 rebounds, sophomore guard
Rayshawn Neal 14 points and eight rebounds in the loss.
Meanwhile, the Lady Bulldogs improved to 4-5 on the season with a 67-51 win over Bob Jones on Monday
. Senior guard
Kemoni Jenkins had 17 points,
Jakayvea Akins contributed 13 points,
junior Taylor Brown came off the bench for 12 and Rhein Beamon chipped in 10 in the win.
Voorhees enters the contest with a 6-4 record on the women's side. The Lady Tigers suffered and 58-60 loss to Allen University in their last outing. Nijah Davis led the way with 11 points, while Jessica Gatson grabbed 9.0 rebounds.
On the men's side, the Tigers 9-4 dropped a tough 89-108 defeat to Allen University. Javari Albergottie Voorhees with 15.2 points, while Jarrett William's grabbed 6.39 rebounds in the loss.
