SC State Basketball Teams Set To Take On Morgan St. Monday

BALTIMORE, MD---The South Carolina State men's and women's basketball teams look to bounce back Monday (Jan. 29th) when they take on Morgan State in a pivotal Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader at Talmadge L. Hill Field House. Tip-off for the women is 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. for the men.

Meanwhile, both teams look to rebound after suffering tough losses to Coppin State on Saturday. The women dropped an, 39-56, decision to the Lady Eagles. Junior guard Kyesha Lewis led the way with 10 points.

On the men's side, the Bulldogs (7-15 overall, 3-4 MEAC/6th) got off to a slow shooting start in the second-half and fell behind, Coppin State came away with a, 65-73, victory over visiting SC State. Senior guard James Richardson finished with a team-high 20 points in the loss.

 Morgan State enters the contest haven't played in a week, when they defeated Delaware State 61-47 at home on the men's side. The Bears (8-12 overall, 4-3 MEAC/4th) are led by one of the MEAC's best in Tiwain Kendley at 27.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. Phillip Carr is the power in the frontcourt and leader on the boards at 8.9 and 14.6 ppg.

The Bulldogs are led in scoring by guard Donte Wright with 13.0 ppg, while sophomore Damani Applewhite is on pace to have an All-MEAC season as the leader in the frontcourt at 12.0 points and 6.9 rebounds. Richardson adds that extra push in the backcourt at 10.4 points per outing.\

The Lady Bear's (10-10 overall, 3-4 MEAC/4th) look to snap a four-game losing skid against the Lady Bulldogs (7-12 overall, 2-5 MEAC). Lexus Spears is leader at 13.4 ppg and 7.6 rebounds, while teammates Braennan Farrar and Tykyrah Williams are averaging a little over 10.3 points.

Graduate guard Bryeasha Blair leads the way for the Lady Bulldogs at 13.9 ppg, while teammate and JUCO transfer Kyesha Lewis is second on the team at 10.4 points. Junior forward Jasmine Williams gives SC State that extra depth in the frontcourt grabbing 6.5 rebounds and tossing in 5.1 points per game.
