ORANGEBURG, SC---The South Carolina State men's and women's basketball teams return to action Monday (Jan. 22th) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference showdown with Hampton University at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
Tip-off is 5:30 p.m., for the women and 7:30 p.m. for the men.
Both teams, look to rebound after suffering tough losses to Norfolk State on Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs (6-11 overall, 1-4 MEAC) fell short of a comeback, 67-71. Graduate guard
Bryeasha Blair lead the with a team-high 20 points.
Meanwhile the Bulldogs (7-13 overall, 3-2 MEAC) snapped their three-game league win streak with a tough, 54-78, defeat to the Spartans. Sophomore
Damani Applewhite led the way with the games only double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Pirates (7-9 overall, 3-0 MEAC) enters the contest after knocking off Savannah State 81-53 in Savannah, GA. Monnaz Finney-Smith led the way with a team-high 19 points for Hampton.
Finney-Smith, Allina Starr and Jephany Brown all average a little over 11.0 points per contest.
The Pirates (6-12 overall, 1-2 MEAC) look to bounce back after a disappointing 101-103 decision to the Tigers of Savannah State. Jermaine Marrow led the way with 29 points.
Marrow leads the way for the men with 18.7 ppg, while teammates Malique Trent-Street adds 13.6 and Kalin Fisher 11.4 points per outing. Greg Heckstall is the leader on the boards with 6.6.
