ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's basketball team continue Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play when they host the visiting Hawks of Maryland Eastern Shore Monday (Jan. 15
th) at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m., immediately following the women's contest at 5:30 p.m.
History
This will be the 74
th matchup between the Hawks and Bulldogs. South Carolina State owns a commanding 54-19 lead. The last time the two teams met Maryland Eastern Shore defeated South Carolina State 92-69 in Princess Anne, Maryland.
The Bulldogs (6-12 overall, 2-1 MEAC) are coming off an, 91-88, overtime win over Howard Saturday. Sophomore forward Damani Applewhite led the way for SC State with the games only double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Graduate guard Donte Wright finished with a team-high 20 points and five rebounds, along with Janai Raynor-Powell's 18 and James Richardson's 12 in the win.
Wright is the leader for the Bulldogs averaging 15.2 ppg, while Applewhite controls the frontcourt at 11.4 points and 6.6 rebounds. Richardson gives the extra push in the backcourt at 10.1 along with Raynor-Powell with 7.6 points per outing.
Meanwhile, Maryland Eastern Shore (5-14 overall, 1-3 MEAC) looks to rebound after an 87-59 loss to Savannah State. Tyler Jones led the Hawks with 20 points, while Miryne Thomas added 16 rebounds.
The Hawks are led by Ahmad Frost, Logan McIntosh, and Tyler Jones with a little over 11.7 points each respectively. Thomas adds 10.5 points per contest.
