DURHAM,NC—The South Carolina State Bulldogs(1-1overall, 0-0 MEAC) hit the road to take on defending MEAC Champion North Carolina Central (1-1 overall,0-0 MEAC) in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener Thursday (Sept.21) at O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium. Kickoff is7:30p.m. will be televised live on ESPNU/ESPN3.
LAST TIMEOUT: NCCU is coming off a bye week. On Sept. 9, the
Eagles amassed 393 yards of total offense and kept Shaw University off the scoreboard in a 41-0 win at O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium. The closest the Bears got to the
end zone was the NCCU 42-yard line.
SC State 41, Johnson C. Smith 0 (Orangeburg, S.C.): Bulldogs senior kicker
Tyler Scandrett connected on four fields goals as South Carolina State cruised to a 41-0 shutout over Johnson C. Smith on Sept. 16 at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.
THE SERIES: This will be the 23
rd meeting between the two schools since they first played in 1927. South Carolina State leads the series 12-10. The last time the Bulldogs came to Durham.
SC State beat the
Eagles 44-3 in a Thursday night
ESPNU contest.
The Eagles won the last meeting with a 48-35 victory in Orangeburg back in 2014. Both NCCU and SC State are coming off 41-0 victories over CIAA teams. The
Eagles blanked Shaw on Sept. 9, while the Bulldogs shut out Johnson C. Smith on Sept. 16.
The game was previously scheduled for Saturday (Sept.23), but was changed to be played live on national television on ESPNU/ESPN3.
