Box Score ROCK HILL, SC—South Carolina State committed a game-high 19 turnovers, which Winthrop took full advantage of scoring 25 answered points off turnovers to go on to a, 86-61, victory over the Bulldogs Sunday (Nov. 26
th) at the Winthrop Coliseum.
"We gave up 19 turnovers as well as 25 points and 38 points in the paint," said Bulldog head coach
Murray Garvin. "You can beat to many people or compete with a team as talented as Winthrop turning the ball over."
"We had another long night shooting the ball as a team," said Garvin. "It's going to be a long process and we have to keep working at it and get better and limit our mistakes."
Sophomore forward Damani Applewhite finished with a double-double 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Jani Raynor-Powell added 11 points in the loss. Freshman guard Rayshawn Neal showed a spark off the bench with eight points and four rebounds.
Early foul trouble limited the Bulldog frontcourt. Despite, the loss South Carolina State and Winthrop was pretty much even in the rebounding category with the Eagles edging out 44-41, and 46-32 off bench points.
WU was led by Josh Ferguson with 21 points and 15 rebounds, while Austin Awad added 16. Mitch Hill and Charles Falden tossed in 12 each respectively.
Garvin stated, "We have to get back home get in film session and classes and get ready for our next opponent Morris College. We need all our fans to come out and support us and rally behind this team on Tuesday."
South Carolina State will host Morris College College Tuesday (Nov. 28) in a non-conference matchup at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Tipoff is 7 p.m.
