ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's and women's basketball teams will host their home-opener Tuesday (Nov. 21
st) at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
The first contest will feature the Lady Bulldogs (1-2) against Georgia Southern in a non-conference matchup beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Bulldogs hosting Central Arkansas in a 7:30 p.m. Start.
The women are coming off an impressive 65-37 victory over Winthrop on Saturday. Junior guard
Kemoni Jenkins led the way with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while sophomore guard
Chantel Williams chipped in 12 points and seven boards. Newcomer junior forward Jasmine Williams had monster game with a game-high 13 rebounds and 11 points in the win.
Meanwhile, Georgia Southern (1-3) is looking to snap a two-game losing skid after suffering back-to-back losses to Mercer (45-72) and Alabama (36-84). Nakol Francis leads the way for the Eagles with 8.3 points per outing, while Sierra Butler adds 7.7 points and leads the team in rebounding with 8.3 rebounds per game.
On the men side, the Bulldogs return home after a nine-day road trip and will host Central Arkansas. Graduate guard Donte Wright leads the way with 9.8 points, while sophomore forward
Damani Applewhite chips in 8.0 points and 4.3 rebounds. Newcomer Justin Jones plays an active role off the bench with 7.0 points per outing.
Central Arkansas (2-2) has three players in double-figures and is coming off an 102-76 win over Alcorn State on Sunday (Nov. 19
th). Jordan Howard is the leader for the Bears averaging 27.0 ppg. Hayden Koval scores 13.5 points and grabs 5.3 rebounds, while Thatch Unruh adds 10.0 points.
South Carolina State will be hosting Orangeburg Parks and Recreation Day/Thanksgiving Food Drive. Parks and Recreation Athletes wearing their uniform will receive complimentary admission. Fans that are donating two non-perishable food items will be admitted for a discount general admission ticket of $5/and $8 reserved admission.
