ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State Bulldogs (2-5, 1-4 MEAC) look to bounce back in a key Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference showdown with the visiting Bison of Howard University (4-3, 3-1 MEAC) Saturday (Oct. 27
th) at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium/Willie Jeffries Field.
This game looms big for Coach Buddy Pough and his Bulldogs, who are coming off their second consecutive loss – both in MEAC play – and need a victory today to have any chance of averting a losing season.
The Attraction
South Carolina State will be celebrating "Homecoming 2017." Alumni from across the nation will be returning to campus to reminisce about the past, re-unite with old friends and classmate and celebrate the present. Miss USA 2017, an SC State alum, and former Miss SC State University, will serve as Grand Marshal of the Homecoming Parade which begins at 9 a.m. at the Edisto Gardens. Reigning over today's Home-coming activities is Miss Day-Sha Stewart, a sophomore early childhood education major of Columbia, SC.

The Series
The Bulldogs and Bison are meeting for the 46th time in a series that began in 1971. SC State holds a 34-11 edge in the rivalry and has won the last 12 meetings, including a 14-9 triumph at Washington, DC last year. In the last meeting in Orangeburg in 2015, the Bulldogs won 49-10. Howard's last win in the series was a 23-9 victory at Orangeburg in 2002, Pough's inaugural season as Bulldog head coach.
The Coaches
SC State's Buddy Pough (SC State '75) is in his 16th season as head coach at his alma mater and owns a 119-60 overall mark (92-51 MEAC). He is 12-1 against Howard.
(Howard's Mike London (Richmond '83) is in his first season as Bison head coach. He is 4-3 at Howard and is meeting SC State for the first time. London is 56-54 in nine seasons as a head coach.
