Box Score ORLANDO, Fla.—The South Carolina State Bulldogs dropped its season opener in a tough 38-0 defeat to Central Florida Saturday (Sept.3) at Bright House Networks Stadium (36,260).
UCF's redshirt sophomore kicker Matthew Wright nailed a career-best four field-goals of 46, 34, 45 and 37 to give Central Florida an early 12-0 lead with 10:07 remaining in the first-half. Senior quarterback Justin Holeman punched in a 10-yard scamper to give the Knights an 18-0 advantage entering halftime.
Central Florida added on a few scores down the stretch to hold on to a 38-0 victory under first-year head coach Scott Frost.
Redshirt junior All-American linebacker
Darius Leonard led the charge on defense with 16 tackles in the loss. Sophomore quarterback
Caleb York threw 15-of-35 for 134 yards passing, and led Bulldog rushers as well with 10 carries for 38 yards.
The special teams were led by redshirt freshman
Bishop Ford finished with five (5) kick returns for 103 yards.
South Carolina State returns to action on Saturday, Sept.9 against Louisiana Tech in Ruston, LA in a 6 p.m. (CT) /7 p.m. (EST) showdown at Joe Aillet Stadium.
