WASHINGTON, DC—The South Carolina State men's basketball team face the Howard Bison in a pivotal Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader at Burr Gymnasium Monday (Feb.22).
Tipoff for the women begin at 5:30 p.m., with the men following in an 7:30 p.m. start immediately afterwards.
South Carolina State is 15-12 overall, 10-3 MEAC/2
nd and is on point to have one of their best season's in six years (2009-10), when the Bulldogs finished second in the MEAC Tournament with a 18-14 overall, 10-6 MEAC record.
The MATCHUP: The Bulldogs look to continue their winning ways against a tough and scrappy Howard Bison team. Three Bulldogs are in double-figures with junior guard Eric Eaves leading with way with 16.7 points (19.2 in MEAC play), and sophomore guard
Ed Stephens's chips in 13.5. Senior guard/forward
Gabriel McCray tosses in 11.2 points, while grabbing 4.7 rebounds. All-MEAC Preseason forward/center
Darryl Palmer is the leader on the boards with 6.1 and scoring 8.0 per game. SC State is grabbing almost 33.4 rebounds a game, while forcing over 12.0 turnovers.
Despite their record, the Bison (11-16 overall, 5-7 MEAC/T-7
th) have one of the more talented teams in the conference with the nation's leading scorer in James Daniel III. HU has three players in double-figures with Daniel III, leading the way with 27.7 points per game. James Miller is second with 15.0 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, while Damon Collins adds 10.2 points and 4.9 per outing. Marcel Body is the leader on the boards with 9.3 rebounds and 10.7 pig.
