Box Score ROCK HILL, S.C. – Freshman guard
Chantel Williams had 14 points to lead four SC State women's basketball players in double-figure scoring as the Lady Bulldogs defeated Winthrop 63-55 on Monday night at Winthrop Coliseum.
Williams was 5-of-7 from the field, including 3-of-4 from three point range.
Bryeasha Blair finished with 13 points (5-of-8 shooting), while
Jahmia Bradley and
Brittany Drumgoole had 11 points apiece. SC State (1-1) also got a double-digit performance from
JaQuanna Murray with a career-high 15 rebounds.
SC State led from the beginning and had a four-point advantage (21-17) at the end of the first quarter. Winthrop took its largest lead of the game, 26-23, after a jumper with 7:10 left in the second quarter. The Lady Bulldogs regained (27-26) the lead on layup by
Alexis Scott with 4:20 left in the period.
SC State led for the remainder of the game to notch its first win of the season.
Danyael Goodhope led Winthrop with 14 points. Erica Williams and Angela Coelle Perez finished with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Murray added four blocks for the Lady Bulldogs, who outrebounded Winthrop 50-35.
SC State returns to action on Saturday in a 6 p.m. game at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C.
