Box Score ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State men's basketball team efforts fell short, with a 68-57 loss to Savannah State Saturday (Feb.28) at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
The Bulldogs fall to 10-20 overall, 7-8 in the MEAC, while the Tigers improve to 9-19 overall, 5-9 in the league.
SSU had four players finish in double figures with senior guard Terel Hall leading the way with a team-high 17 points. Alante Finner added 15 points, five rebounds, while sophomore forward Jenkins chipped in 11 points and five rebounds.
Junior forward Brian Pearson recorded the games only double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Sophomore guard
Karon Wright finished with a game-high 19 points, while
Greg Mortimer tossed in 13.
Jalen White added 10 and junior forward
Gabe McCray provided a solid seven point and 10 rebound in the loss.
SC State plagued with injuries was without leading rebounder in junior forward
Darryl Palmer. SSU took full advantage dominating the boards over SC State 68-57. The Tigers shot 53% (26-of-49) from the field, while forcing a game-high 14 turnovers.
Next up, SC State travels to Daytona Beach, Fla. next Thursday to play Bethune-Cookman in a pivotal MEAC doubleheader with the women beginning in a 5:30 p.m., tipoff in the regular-season finale for both teams. After that, the Bulldogs head to Norfolk, Va. for the 2015 MEAC Tournament which runs from March 9-14 at the Scope Arena.
