Women's Basketball Travels to Baltimore to Play at Coppin State and Morgan State

Game Notes

Inside the Games: The SC State women's basketball team returns to action this weekend with MEAC games at Coppin State on Saturday (2 p.m.) and Morgan State on Monday (5:30 p.m.). The Lady Bulldogs are coming off a 64-62 win over Delaware State last Saturday to improve to 12-8 overall and 5-4 in MEAC play. Kourtney Williams has led the team in scoring all season. She is currently averaging 16.7 points per game. Jasmine Coleman leads the team in rebounding with 6.1 boards per game.
 
Coppin State is 3-16 on the season including 2-6 in conference competition. The Lady Eagles are on a four-game losing streak, with their most recent loss coming at home to cross-town rival Morgan State on Monday. Janelle Lane averages a team-best 9.7 points per game, while Bria Harris grabs 7.1 rebounds per game.
 
Heading into Saturday's game with Savannah State, Morgan State has an 8-12 overall record and is 5-3 in the MEAC. The Lady Bears have won two in a row, defeating Howard (77-64) last Saturday and Coppin State (62-53) on Monday. The team is led in scoring by Tracey Carrington (18.9 ppg) and Braennan Farrar (13.1 ppg) and in rebounding by Zuri White (7.1 rpg).

Looking Ahead: After this weekend swing in Baltimore, the Lady Bulldogs make the short trip to Savannah, Ga. to play Savannah State on Feb. 14.
 
Surpassing 1,000: Senior guard Kourtney Williams surpassed the 1,000-point mark on Saturday against Delaware State when she hit a 3-pointer with 9:07 left in the game. She needed 26 points to reach 1,000 and finished the game with 28. On the season, she is averaging 16.7 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.
 
Last Meeting vs. Coppin State (1-13-14): Coppin State used strong inside scoring and a big edge on the boards to earn a 62-49 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference win over the South Carolina State women at CSU Physical Education Complex.
 
The Lady Bulldogs, who had their three-game win streak snapped, fell to 4-9 overall and 2-1 in the MEAC. Junior Kourtney Williams has 16 points, 14 in the second half, and a team-high six rebounds to lead SC State, which was outrebounded 47-24 by the Lady Eagles. DayShaun Richbow added 10 points, all but two in the opening period, and Mykala Jones contributed nine points in the loss.
 
Coppin State was paced by Kyra Coleman and reserve Janelle Lane, who had 16 points each. Larrisa Carter added 14 points and she and Lane snared 10 rebounds each for the Lady Eagles.
  
Last Meeting vs. Morgan State (1-11-14): South Carolina State got 22 points from junior Kourtney Williams and 16 from graduate DayShaun Richbow in earning its first road win of the campaign, an 80-53 triumph over Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foe Morgan State at Hill Field House.

The Lady Bulldogs also got 13 points from Persephone "Ci Ci" Goodwin and 11 from Cabriel Duren in the win. Goodwin and Brittany Andersen, who contributed five points, each had seven rebounds for SC State, which enjoyed a 38-30 edge on the boards.

SC State also had one of its best shooting performances of the season, nailing 55.9 percent (33-of-59) of its attempts from the field, including 60 percent accuracy (20-of-33) in the second half, when Robertson's team outscored the host Lady Bears 48-20. Also, SC State committed just 10 turnovers – a season low – and had 11 steals.
