FB: SC State Signs 29 Prospects

ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State, Wednesday, announced the signing of twenty-nine (29) football prospects to national letters. Sixteen (16) of the signees are from South Carolina, seven are from North Carolina, three from Georgia, two from Florida and one from Maryland.

Among the Palmetto State prospects are four Shrine Bowl participants – WR Daquan Benjamin of Hartsville, OL Shaquille Crouch of Johnsonville, QB Marquane Goodman of Florence and a Rivals.com 2-Star pick, and DL Paul McKiever of Batesburg-Leesville. The group also includes five North-South All-Star performers – DL Wendell Bing of Columbia, LB Johnell Brown of St. Stephen, ATH Tra'Quan Dubose of Darlington, DB Kendric Gathers of Columbia, and DL Tyrell Goodman of Columbia.

Other top prospects include Shrine Bowl performer Jalen Cousar, DL of Matthews, NC; ATH Khaliq Anthony of Norway, SC; RB Bishop Ford of Huntersville, NC; DL Jamentre' Blair of Winston-Salem, NC, and WRs Kanyon Tuttle of Charlotte and Kanome McIntosh of Conyers, GA.

SC State head coach Buddy Pough, who is looking to replace 20 seniors, expressed his excitement at the latest Bulldog signing class and noted that his team addressed vital needs, including at quarterback, where the team has only one scholarship player returning at the position. The Bulldogs were also looking at help at wide receiver along both the defensive and offensive line.

"We think we have assembled a really good group of talented young men in our 2015 class," Pough said. "I applaud our coaches who did a fantastic job of pulling this class together. It was a total team effort and I think we did a nice job in addressing our needs. We are always emphasizing in-state kids and we got quite a bit of South Carolina prospects.

"It's (2015 Class) one of our largest signing classes (during my tenure) and now we just hope that they can come in a play. We went heavy on quarterbacks, landed a couple of speed guys at wide receiver and some solid linemen on both sides of the football."

SC State signed four signal callers. Quarterbacks joining Goodman in the 2013 class include Dewann Ford of Stephenson, GA who accounted for 1,638 passing yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior; David Pindell of Columbia, MD, who passed for 2,447 yards and 23 TDs and rushed for 924 yards and 21 scores his senior campaign; and Caleb York of Charlotte, NC, who had 2,105 passing yards and 20 touchdowns and 704 rushing yards and nine six-pointers.

Six defensive linemen, five offensive linemen and two wide receivers also are among the Bulldog signees. Click to see the entire list: 2015 Bulldog Signees
