Box Score ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Kenyata Hendrix had a game-high 18 points and teammate Tiyonda Smith had 16 points, seven rebounds and five blocks to lead the Savannah State women's basketball team to a 55-52 win over South Carolina State on Saturday afternoon at the S-H-M Memorial Center.
SC State (15-11, 8-7 MEAC) led for most of the first half and took a 33-29 lead into halftime.
The Lady Bulldogs had a five-point advantage (41-36) after a layup by
Toni Grier with 13:20 left in the game. Savannah State (16-10, 11-3 MEAC) then went on an 11-0 run to take a 47-41 lead with 6:57 remaining.
A bucket by
Jasmine Coleman at the 5:02 mark got SC State within one, 49-48, and a jumper by
Kourtney Williams with 3:18 left gave the Lady Bulldogs the momentary lead. Jasmine Norman scored for Savannah State with 1:30 left to put the Lady Tigers up 51-50. They went on to score the next four points of the game to go up 55-50. A layup at the buzzer by Coleman ended the scoring for the contest.
Williams dropped in a team-high 16 points for SC State in her final game at the S-H-M Memorial Center. Grier had a career-high nine rebounds and Coleman finished with six points, eight boards and two blocks.
The Lady Bulldogs travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. on Thursday to play Bethune-Cookman in the regular-season finale for both teams. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m.
