Women's Basketball Hosts Savannah State on Saturday; Three Seniors to be honored for Senior Day

Inside the Game: The SC State women's basketball team hosts Savannah State at 4 p.m. on Saturday in the final home game of the 2014-15 season. Seniors Deja Jackson, Persephone Goodwin and Kourtney Williams will be honored prior the game in the Senior Day Ceremony. The Lady Bulldogs (15-10, 8-6  MEAC) are on a two-game winning streak after defeating Maryland Eastern Shore (69-58) and Howard (78-64) on Saturday and Monday, respectively. Williams leads the squad in scoring with 17.0 points per game. Junior guard Amber Howard is also averaging double figures with 10.6 points per game. Junior forward Jasmine Coleman is the team's top rebounder as she grabs 6.8 boards per game.

Savannah State (15-10, 10-3 MEAC) has won its last five games and is 11-3 since the beginning of the year. The Lady Tigers took down SC State two weeks ago in a 61-53 victory at Tiger Arena on Feb. 14. Ezinne Kalu and Jasmine Norman are averaging 17.0 and 10.9 points per game, respectively, while Tiyonda Davis is the team's leading rebounder with 7.1 rebounds per game.

Last Meeting (2-14-15): The SC State women's basketball team fell 61-53 to Savannah State at Tiger Arena. Savannah State (13-10, 8-3 MEAC) led for the entire game and started the contest on a 10-0 run. The Lady Bulldogs got within four (23-19) after a quick 6-0 run but ended up being down by eight (27-19) at the break.

The Lady Tigers got up by 15, 45-30, midway through the second half, but SC State would not be outdone. Savannah State took another double-digit lead, and SC State cut it back to five again (58-53), but Kalu hit three straight free throws to seal the win. Kalu finished with a game-high 23 points and added seven rebounds and two steals.

Kourtney Williams dropped in a team-high 19 points to go with her eight rebounds, four steals and one block. Ashleigh Outler had 11 points and Jasmine Coleman had her first career double-double of 10 points and 10 boards.

Looking Ahead: SC State travels to Daytona Beach, Fla. next Thursday to play Bethune-Cookman at 5:30 p.m. in the regular-season finale for both teams. After that, the Lady Bulldogs head to Norfolk, Va. for the 2015 MEAC Tournament which runs from March 9-14 at the Scope Arena.

MEAC Tournament Watch: The Lady Bulldogs are currently in sixth place in the MEAC standings. If the seedings were set today, they would play Coppin State in the No. 6 vs. No. 11 game on Monday, March 9.
