Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga. – The SC State women's basketball team fell 61-53 at Savannah State on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Arena. The Lady Bulldogs are now 13-10 on the season and 6-6 in MEAC play.
Savannah State (13-10, 8-3 MEAC) led for the entire game and started the contest on a 10-0 run. The Lady Tigers pushed the lead to 14, 19-5, after a layup by Ezinne Kalu with 9:32 left in the first half. The Lady Bulldogs got within four (23-19) after a quick 6-0 run but ended up being down by eight (27-19) at the break.
The Lady Tigers got up by 15, 45-30, midway through the second half, but SC State would not be outdone. A layup by
Kourtney Williams with 5:16 remaining got the Lady Bulldogs within five, 50-45. Savannah State took another double-digit lead, and SC State cut it back to five again (58-53), but Kalu hit three straight free throws to seal the win.
Kalu finished with a game-high 23 points and added seven rebounds and two steals.
Williams dropped in a team-high 19 points to go with her eight rebounds, four steals and one block.
Ashleigh Outler had 11 points and
Jasmine Coleman had her first career double-double of 10 points and 10 boards.
SC State returns to the S-H-M Memorial Center for the final three home games of the season. The Lady Bulldogs host Maryland Eastern Shore this Saturday (4 p.m.), Howard on Monday (5:30 p.m.) and Savannah State for Senior Day on Feb. 28 (4 p.m.).
