TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Junior guard Bria Ratliff scored a game- and career-high 23 points to lead the South Carolina State women's basketball team to a 68-62 come-from-behind win over Florida A&M on Saturday afternoon at the Al Lawson Center.
Ratliff was 9-of-15 from the floor for the game, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range. She also had five rebounds, three steals, and an assist in 37 minutes.
SC State (3-3, 1-0 MEAC) got off to an extremely slow start with FAMU (3-5, 0-1 MEAC) scoring 10 straight points to start the game. The Lady Bulldogs did not get on the board until Ratliff's first trey of the game with 6:21 left in the first quarter. The Lady Rattlers led by as many as 14 (26-12) in the first period.
It was much of the same in the second period with the Lady Rattlers keeping the Lady Bulldogs at bay. FAMU took a 37-26 lead into half time.
FAMU was up by 13 (47-34) after a three point play by Olivia Antilla with 5:30 left in the third quarter. But SC State went on a 10-2 run to close out the period, cutting the deficit to just five points.
A pair of free throws by Jazzmine Johnson at the 4:19 mark forced the first tie of the contest at 57-all, and the Lady Bulldogs took their first lead three minutes later on a jumper by Jasmine Coleman. They went on to outscore the Lady Rattlers 5-0 over the last 1:20 of the game to seal the win.
Khadejra Young and Antilla each scored in double figures for FAMU with 15 and 13 points, respectively.
Brittany Drumgoole finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists for SC State. Coleman tallied 10 points and had four boards, three steals and a block.
The Lady Bulldogs look to continue their winning ways when they travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. for a 5:30 p.m. game at Bethune-Cookman on Monday.
