Box Score SAVANNAH, GA—The South Carolina State Bulldogs closed out the season on a winning note with a 52-29 dominating victory over Savanah State Saturday (Nov. 21) at Theodore A. Wright Stadium.
The Bulldogs finish the season at 7-4 overall, 6-2 in the MEAC, while Tigers close out the 2015 campaign at 1-9 overall, 1-7 in the MEAC.
"But, you have to give Savannah State credit. Despite winning only one game, they are a much-improved team and my hat goes off to Coach Earnest Wilson and his staff," said SC State head coach Buddy Pough. "We had to fight hard to get the victory."
Senior running back
Jalen Simmons closed out his collegiate career with 20 carries for 77-yards a touchdown. Meanwhile, senior wide receiver
Taquan West caught 8 receptions for a game-high 117-yards and two touchdowns.
The Bulldogs committed five turnovers, three of which the host Tigers turned into points, but SC State got two scores on fumble returns and another on a blocked punt to hold off Savannah State.
Redshirt junior quarterback
Adrian Kollock, Jr. got off to a slow start but finished 18-of-33-3 for 188 yards and two touchdowns.
Senior running back
Dondre Lewis-Freeman had a solid performance running the ball with 13 rushes for 75-yards. Senior linebacker
Tevin Richard blocked hit fifth (5
th) punt of the season to set a Bulldog School Record. Richard's performance ranks him second (2
nd) nationally in all FCS I-AA.
Senior All-American defensive lineman
Javon Hargrave led the defense with four tackles, two tackles for loss for 22-yards and two sacks. Hargrave leads the MEAC and is nationally-ranked with 13.5 sacks on the season.
Sophomore linebacker
Dayshawn Taylor, junior defensive back
Devondre Powell and senior defensive end
Reggie Owens all finished with six (6) tackles each.
