SAVANNAH, Ga. – South Carolina State will play its final game of the season when they travel to take on Savannah State Saturday (Nov.21) at T.A. Wright Stadium in Savannah, Ga. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
The Bulldogs (6-4 overall, 5-2 MEAC) will look to finish out on winning note for the 13
th time in head coach Buddy Pough's 14-year tenure since 2002. Meanwhile, the Tigers (1-8 overall, 1-6 MEAC) will attempt to snap a five-game losing streak since beating Florida a&M, 37-27, on October 3 in Savannah.
SC State (6-4, 5-2) is 16-1 in the series against SSU. The Bulldogs won, 59-7, last season in Orangeburg, S.C. The Bulldogs defeated Norfolk State, 17-10, last Saturday in Norfolk, Va.
SC State is coming off a 17-10 victory over Norfolk State last Saturday in Norfolk, VA, while Savannah State suffered a 42-3 setback to Hampton at home.
SC STATE OUTLOOKQuarterback Adrian Kollock, a 6-foot-2, 202-pound redshirt junior from Spartanburg, S.C., started against Norfolk State and finished 20-of-40 passing for 255 yards and a touchdown without an interception. It was Kollock's first start since the Bulldogs' season opener against Arkansas Pine Bluff, a game in which he was injured. Kollock is 40-of-74 passing for 350 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
Wide receiver
Taquan West, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound senior from Lexington, S.C., has made 37 catches for 578 yards and three touchdowns.
All-MEAC running back
Jalen Simmons, a 5-foot-8, 205-pound senior from Charlotte, N.C., has 641 yards rushing, including a touchdown, on 123 carries.
All-American
Javon Hargrave is the heart and soul of this Bulldog defense with 55 tackles, 20 TFL , 11.5 sacks(ties national record) and ten quarterback pressures.
Redshirt Linebacker
Darius Leonard, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound redshirt sophomore from Lake View, S.C., has made 68 tackles, including five sacks. Linebacker
Dayshawn Taylor, a 5-foot-10, 240-pound redshirt sophomore from Lincolnton, Ga., has made 67 tackles.
A LOOK AT SAVANNAH STATEArshone Spaulding is the playmaker for SSU leading the way throwing 56-of-121 for 460 yards, while also rushing for 494 yards on 89 carries and three (3) touchdowns. Spaulding has help in the backfield with running back Richard Williams II carrying the ball 78 times 353 yards and two touchdowns.
Ker-Season Wilson the main spark for the receiving corps with 22 catches for 204 yards.
Leonard Myers spearheads the defense in tackles with 57 and two interceptions on the season. Marquis Smith is second with 50 tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss for 27 yards and one interception. Trevion Ashford rounds out the talented trio with 48 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
