Box Score CHARLESTON, S.C. – South Carolina State suffered a second-half collapse in their season opener in a 74-54 loss to College of Charleston at TD Arena.
The College of Charleston athletics department honored the Emanuel AME Church community prior to the opener. TD Arena, home facility of the Cougars, is located across the street from the church.
Junior guard
Greg Mortimer led the Bulldogs with a team-high 13 points, while teammate senior guard/forward
Gabriel McCray added 12 in the tough loss. The Bulldogs were out-rebounded 44-32 and shot 32.1% from the field.
Canyon Barry scored a career-high 31 points to lead College of Charleston. Barry was joined in double figures by Cameron Johnson, who also turned in a career high with 18 points. He and Johnson combined for 49 of the teams 74 points in the ballgame.
South Carolina State returns to action on Monday when they host Voorhees College in a non-conference matchup at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Tipoff is 7 pm.
