GAME NOTES: South Carolina State versus Bethune-Cookman

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.— South Carolina State will resume league play Thursday night (Oct. 8) when they battle host Bethune-Cookman in a pivotal Mid-Eastern Athletic (MEAC) clashing at Municipal Stadium. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. (ET) and will be televised live on ESPNU/ESPN3.

The contest between SC State and Bethune-Cookman matches the two teams that have won at least a share of six of the last seven Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championships. SC State leads the series against BC-U 31-21-1 overall.

Leading the air attack for SC State is freshman quarterback Caleb York throwing 64-of-115 (55.6%) for 728 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. Senior running back Jalen Simmons handles the running back duties with 41 carries for 263 yards, while senior wide receiver Taquan West is the leads the receiving corps with 12 catches for 218 yards.

Redshirt sophomore linebacker Darius Leonard leads the team in tackles with 30 (26 solo), 6.5 tackles for loss and two sacks for 13 yards. All-American defense lineman Javon Hargrave is third on the team in tackles with 20 (15 solo), 7.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks for 21 yards, behind sophomore linebacker Dayshawn Taylor with 27 (24 solo) tackles and one sack.

Head Coach Buddy Pough is in his 14^th year at the helm of the Bulldog football program with an 107-49 overall. Pough is seeking his seventh (2004, 08, 09, 10, 13, 14) Mid-Eastern Athletic Championship since taking over in 2002 for legendary head coach Willie Jeffries.
