SC State versus Delaware State Game Notes
DOVER, DE—The South Carolina State Bulldogs look to keep things on the winning track this Saturday (Oct. 24) when they travel to Dover, DE to take on host Delaware State in a pivotal Mid-Eastern Athletic (MEAC) showdown at Alumni Stadium. Kickoff is 2 p.m.
THE SERIES
The Hornets and Bulldogs are meeting for the 43rd time since the series began when the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference was established in 1971. The teams last met in 2012 at Alumni Stadium. Delaware State posted a 31-17 victory in the contest to snap a four-game SC State win streak in the series
Delaware State (0-6, 0-3 MEAC) will be celebrating its annual homecoming while they seek their first win of the season overall and both conference play. The Hornets are coming off a tough, 41-13, loss to Florida A&M on last week. Meanwhile, SC State (3-3 overall, 2-1 MEAC) looks to keep pushing forward after an impressive, 49-10, victory over Howard in Orangeburg.
Freshman quarterback Caleb York leads the air attack for the Bulldogs throwing 92-of-163 for 1,111 yards and 6 TD's in six games. Senior running back Jalen Simmons is the leader on the ground with 63 carries for 354 yards, while averaging 6.0 yards per run.
Redshirt sophomore Mykal Moody (22 catches for 266 yards and 2 TD's) and senior wide receiver Taquan West (20 catches for 322 yards and 1 TD) are the main targets in the receiving corps. Graduate tight end Temarrick Hemingway provides the solid depth both with blocking and catching the football with 19 catches for 237 yards.
All-MEAC linebacker Darius Leonard spearheads the defense with 43 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks and 1 INT, while All-American defensive lineman Javon Hargrave makes it impossible for opponents to run up the middle with 32 tackles , 8.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and five quarterback hurries.
