GREENVILLE, S.C. – The South Carolina State Bulldogs return to action on Saturday (Oct. 3) on the road against host Furman University in a non-conference matchup at Paladin Stadium. Kickoff is 7:04 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN3.
This will mark the 17th meeting between the Paladins (2-2) and Bulldogs (2-1) but only first in Paladin Stadium since 1999. SC State knocked off nationally-ranked Furman last season, 17-7, in Orangeburg after the Paladins claimed a 30-20 victory in the opening-round of the NCAA FCS playoffs in 2013 at O.C. Dawson Stadium.
Furman holds an 11-5 lead in the series with S.C. State and is 7-1 versus the Bulldogs in Greenville, the lone defeat coming in the series' first meeting in 1982 in NCAA first round playoff action.
Freshman quarterback Caleb York leads the air attack for SC State, throwing 45-of-86 for 536 yards and two touchdowns. Senior running back Jalen Simmons coming off a spectacular 1000-yard season in 2014, is the leader in the backfield with 29 carries for 193 yards.
Senior wide receiver Taquan West is the leader of the receiving corps with 11 catches for 189 yards, while sophomore Mykal Moody is second with 11 catches for 101 yards and a touchdown. Redshirt sophomore linebacker Darius Leonard spearheads the defense with 26 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and one sack. All-American Javon Hargrave is still in the mix of things with 10 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.
