(Pittsburgh, PA) –American Urban Radio Networks is proud to announce that junior defensive lineman Javon Hargrave was named to the award-winning 2014 SBN Sports Black College All-American Team, as well as being named SBN Sports | Mel Blount Defensive Player of the Year.

The 2014 National Champion Alcorn State University Braves are recipients of the 2014 SBN Sports Jake Gaither National Championship Trophy. The Braves placed four players on the team including quarterback John Gibbs Jr., tight end Jordan Payne, offensive lineman Isaac Sampson and defensive back Devon Francois. North Carolina A&T State University was also represented by four players including runningback Tarik Cohen, offensive linemen Ronald Canty and William Ray Robinson III and defensive back Donald Mattocks. Sampson and two other players; defensive lineman Anthony Bass of Tennessee State University and Norfolk State University linebacker Lynden Trail, were also members of the 2013 SBN Sports Black College All-American Team.
 
Individually, Alcorn State quarterback John Gibbs Jr. was chosen the "SBN Sports Doug Williams Offensive Player of the Year"

Grambling State University Head Coach Broderick Fobbs is the "SBN Sports Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year."
 
John Gibbs, Jr. (6-6, 222, Jr., Houston, Texas) Alcorn State University, "SBN Sports | Doug Williams Offensive Player of the Year"
Gibbs was the Offensive Player of the Year in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). During the season he had 2482 yards passing, 21 touchdowns and a 139.75 passer rating. He also led the Braves in rushing with a total of 1006 yards on 135 carries and 11 touchdowns. John Gibbs Jr. is a Mass Communications Major.
 
Javon Hargrave (6-2 295, Jr., Salisbury, NC) South Carolina State University, "SBN Sports | Mel Blount Defensive Player of the Year"
Hargrave was the Defensive Player of the Year in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). He led the conference and ranked third in the nation in sacks with 16. He was fourth in the NCAA in tackles for loss with 23.5 and totaled 55 sacks, three forced fumbles, 8 quarterback hurries and two pass break-ups. Javon Hargrave is a Sports Communications Major.


Broderick Fobbs, Grambling State University, "SBN Sports | Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year"
Fobbs took Grambling from a last-place finish and one win a year ago to competing for a division title. They were 7-5 overall and 7-2 against SWAC opponents. Grambling went on a seven-game winning streak to start conference play after nearly upsetting then number one ranked Bethune Cookman. Broderick Fobbs is a 1997 graduate of Grambling State University.
