Jazzmine Johnson dropped in 10, but it was not enough to outdo North Carolina Central as the South Carolina State women's Basketball team suffered a 56-54 overtime loss to the Lady Eagles at McDougald-Mclendon Gym on Saturday afternoon.
N.C. Central improves to 3-12 overall and 1-2 in MEAC play, while SC State falls to 8-6, 1-2.
SC State was up by three, 51-48, with 2:05 left in regulation after a layup by Williams. A free throw by Tisha Dixon at the 1:45 mark and a pair of them by Racquel Davis with 54 seconds left, tied the game, forcing the extra period.
The Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Bulldogs 5-3 in overtime to get the win.
SC State led for most of the game and had double-digit leads in the first half (13 points, 31-18 with 2:30 left) and in the second half (13 points, 38-25 with 17:48 left). But a 14-2 run late in the second half gave N.C. Central a one-point lead (48-47) after a layup by Khyra Conerly with 5:07 remaining.
For N.C. Central, Morgan Jones had a game-high 21 points on 7-of-21 shooting from the floor, including 6-of-16 from beyond the arc. Davis had a double-double of 13 points and 15 rebounds and added two blocks.
Persephone "CiCi" Goodwin had seven points, eight boards and a game-high four blocks for SC State.
The Lady Bulldogs continue their road swing through the Tar Heel State when they travel to Greensboro, N.C. to play at North Carolina A&T on Monday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
