SC State Basketball Teams Take On Savannah State

SAVANNAH, GA—The South Carolina State men's and women's basketball team will play their final regular season game of the season Thursday, on the road against Savannah St. Tipoff for the women is 5:30 p.m., followed by the men immediately afterwards.

The Lady Bulldogs enters the contest with a 7-18 overall, 5-10 MEAC record and 10th in the MEAC standings, while the Lady Tigers are 16-13 overall, 9-6 in the league and is currently 4th.

SC State is coming off a tough 52-42 lost to N.C. A&T on Monday, while SSU knocked off NC Central 74-50 in their last outing.  The Lady Bulldogs currently have pair players in double figures with junior Kourtney Williams leading the way with 15.3 ppg, 4.0 rpg, while senior guard Cabriel Duren is second with 10.7 points and 4.0 rebounds. Senior forward Cherisha Floyd is the leader on the boards with 6.3 rebounds while tossing in 6.1 points.

Meanwhile on the men's side, the Bulldogs are 9-19 overall, 5-10 in the league and are currently in 8th place in league standings, while the Tigers 11-18 overall, 9-6 holds down the 5th spot in the conference.

SC State men dropped an heartbreaking, 62-60,  defeat to conference rival N.C. A&T in Greensboro, NC. Sophomore Jordan Smith led the way with a game-high 15 points while freshman point guard Jalen White added 12.  Meanwhile, SSU men fell short of a two game road sweep dropping a 64-57 overtime defeat to top-ranked NC Central in Durham on Monday night.

The Bulldogs are led by All-MEAC senior forward Matthew Hezekiah with 12.9 ppg and 6.1 rebounds per outing. Senior guard Adama "Louis" Adams is second on the team in scoring with 9.7 points, while sophomore forward Daryll Palmer is the leader on the boards with 7.1 rebounds and 7.1 points per contest.

The men's game will be televised live on WSAV's MY LC, a local channel in Savannah. (Comcast – 121)

Both teams will compete in the 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament, which will be held March 10-15 at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, VA. For more information you can log on to www.meacsports.com.
