Box Score DURHAM, NC – North Carolina Central's Jessica Freeman, one of two seniors honored on "Senior Day," scored a season-high 28 points to lead the Lady Eagles to a 60-43 win over visiting South Carolina State Saturday in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Contest.

Freeman, who had all but one of NCCU's eight second-half field goals, had 21 of her total in the final stanza. Racquel Davis, the only other Lady Eagle in double figures, added 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds in the victory

The win gave the host a sweep of the series with the Lady Bulldogs this season and lifted NCCU to 10-17 on the year and 5-9 in the MEAC.

SC State, which made just 27 percent (16-59) of its field goals in the contest, was led by graduate guard Cabriel Duren with 14 points and six assists. She was the only Lady Bulldog to reach double-digit scoring in the contest. Senior Cherisha Floyd had eight points and a team-high 12 boards for SC State.

Coach Doug Robertson's team fell to 7-17 on the season and 5-9 in the league with the loss.

"Freeman shot the ball real well and had a career night against us," said Robertson. "We couldn't seem to locate her for whatever reason, and she really hurt us with her offense.

"But our production inside was woefully short. (Ci Ci) Goodwin was in foul trouble most of the game and we got very little from her on the boards. And, Kourtney Williams (the team's leading scorer) continues to be hampered by that ankle injury. We only got two points from her. If she gets her average (16 ppg), it may have been a different outcome."

Williams played just 16 minutes and was only 1-4 from the field, while Goodwin failed to score and had only three rebounds in 14 minutes of action, before fouling out with 3:37 left in the contest.

The host scored the game's first seven points but SC State roared back with 15-2 run to go ahead 15-9 when Floyd got inside for a basket with 11:19 left in the first half. NCCU scored the next seven points to regain the lead at 16-15 on an inside basket by reserve Tisha Dixon who had four points in the contest. The host went on to a 26-19 lead at the half.

NCCU, behind the scoring of Freeman, who had three of her four 3-pointers in the second half, began the final half with a 10-3 run to build a 36-22 advantage with 16:21 left in the contest. SC State battled back with seven consecutive points to close to within 36-29 but the Lady Eagles scored 12 of the next 19 points to build a 48-35 lead with 9:06 to play.
SC State could only get to within 10 points of the lead after that.

The Lady Bulldogs remain in North Carolina for a Monday MEAC doubleheader in Greensboro against North Carolina A&T, beginning at 6 p.m.
