Box Score ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State Bulldogs got off to slow start, which resulted in a, 57-43, loss to visiting Coastal Carolina Sunday at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
"I am very disappointed in our approach to today's game," said SC State head coach
Murray Garvin. "We had four games in seven days and they may have been too much for our team to handle at this point."
"I make no excuse CCU came ready to play and we just didn't have the energy to stay in the game with them," stated Garvin. "We have to regroup quickly and get ready for Wednesday at Texas Tech."
CCU jumped out early leading by 13, 35-22, during intermission. Sophomore
Greg Mortimer led the Bulldogs with 10, while teammate
Karon Wright chipped in nine.
Coastal Carolina had three players in double-figures with Warren Gillis leading the way with 13 points. Elijah Wilson added 12 points and six rebounds, while Tristian Curtis chipped in 10 points and five rebounds in the win.
South Carolina State falls to 3-7 overall, 2-0 MEAC, while Coastal Carolina improves to 8-2 on on the season.
SC State closes out the year with five road games, with stops at Texas Tech (12/17/14) in Lubbock, TX, University of Houston (12/19/14) in Houston, TX, The Las Vegas Classic in Las Vegas, NV (Abilene Christian University 12/22 and Arkansas Pine Bluff 12/23) before closing out with Fordham University (12/31) in New York, NY.
