Bulldogs Close Out Home-And-Home Series With Chanticleers

GAME NOTES
ORANGEBURG, SC
—South Carolina State (3-6 overall, 2-0 MEAC) will close out a home-and-home series with Coastal Carolina (7-2 overall, 0-0 Big South) Sunday in a 3 p.m. non-conference matchup at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. The event is free to the public.

THE SERIES: The Chanticleers are 9-6 all-time vs. the Bulldogs. Sunday's game will conclude the regular season home-and-home between the teams. It is the second straight year the teams have played a home-and-home series.
 
INSIDE THE GAME: South Carolina State is coming off a tough, 50-47, loss to the College of Charleston on Thursday at the TD Arena. The Bulldogs outmatched the Cougars in every category, but costly turnovers (16) were the deciding factor down the stretch. Freshman guard Edward Stephens led the way with a game-high 15 points.

MEANWHILE, Coastal Carolina defeated Warren Wilson College 85-40 on Thursday. Warren Gillis reached the 1,000 point plateau with his pair of free throws at the 13:42 mark of the first half. He becomes the 19th member of the Chanticleers' 1,000 point club in the program's 40th year of basketball. Elijah Wilson ended the game as Coastal's leading scorer with 13 points with five made field goals and two free throws. Joining Wilson in double-digits were Josh Cameron (12), Colton Ray-St Cyr (12) and Badou Diagne (11). Marcus Freeman along with Diagne led Coastal's 66-25 dominance on the boards with 13 and 10 rebounds, respectively.        
 
LAST MEETING: The Bulldogs are looking to avenge to early season, 66-52, loss to the Chanticleers on Dec. 2, in Conway. Edward Stephens led SC State with a team-high 15 points.

Looking Ahead: SC State closes out the year with five road games, with stops at Texas Tech (12/17/14) in Lubbock, TX, University of Houston (12/19/14) in Houston, TX, The Las Vegas Classic in Las Vegas, NV (Abilene Christian University 12/22 and Arkansas Pine Bluff 12/23) before closing out with Fordham University (12/31) in New York, NY.
